What's it all about ?

The Adult Training scheme in Scouting is modular and flexible, concentrating on learning rather than just attending courses.

Training can be carried out using a range of methods:

One to One, courses, videos, workbooks and e-learning

There are a total of 38 modules, which covering the skills required for ALL the roles in Scouting.

When you take on a role in Scouting, you will be allocated a Training Adviser (TA). With them, you decide which modules are appropriate to your role in Scouting. You then agree which of these you can demonstrate an existing ability in, and how you are going to learn the others. This forms your Personal Learning Plan (PLP).

When you have completed the learning on any of your required modules, you simply demonstrate that you are using the skills to allow your TA to sign it off.

On completion of all your modules, you will be awarded your Wood Badge.

If you are at the very begining of the process, then hopefully in the next week or so you will be contacted by the Appointments Secretary , who will invite you to attend an appointments meeting where you will meet 3 members of the Appointments Advisory Committee. Their job is to ensure that you understand the requirements of the role you have said yes to, that you are aware and willing to uphold the values and policies of the Scout Association, in essence ensuring that you know the commitment you are about to undertake.
