Explorer Scouts

As a Explorer Scout, you will be able to decide, along with the rest of the Unit, what you want to do - whether it is powerboating, socialising, hiking or enjoying a trip abroad. Some Units hold their meetings in a hall, or at someone's house, or even up a mountain! You will be able to gain badges such as the Chief Scout's Diamond and Platinum Awards. The highest award you can earn is the Queen's Scout Award. This is recognised by many employers as the sign of someone that is enthusiastic, dedicated and reliable.

Keighley District Explorer Belt Trip – Europe 2009

10 young people in Scout uniform

In July 2009 a contingent of 6 Network Scouts and 4 Explorer Scouts from Keighley District are under taking their Explorer Belt. They are visiting Kandersteg, Switzerland and Florence, Italy. The aim of this expedition is to gain cultural experience as well as having the opportunity to take part in a wide range of fantastic activities.

The principal challenge for this Explorer Belt team is to establish a twinning with a group of Italian scouts, from the Italian Movement, Associazione Guide E Scouts Cottolici Italiani (AGESCI) linking West Yorkshire with Tuscany. This is a life changing opportunity which will enable the ten participants to gain a wealth of different skills, that as well as enabling them to all contribute to the planning and running of the expedition will also help them to gain valuable experience to carry with them in the rest of their scouting careers.

In order to run this expedition we are aiming to fundraise £10,000 to pay for transportation, accommodation, activities and food. Whilst fundraising we are organising events for our district as well as our local community, however you may see us throughout the county. To find out more about our Expedition please visit our website www.expeditions.keighleyscouts.org.uk where you can keep up with everything that we're doing in preparation for our expedition.
