Then maybe Explorer Scouting is just for you!

Being an Explorer Scout in West Yorkshire in 2010 is very exciting... Young people in units all across the County are taking part in activities, events and expeditions that for some, would be a once in a lifetime opportunity...for Explorer Scouts in our county, it’s a way of life.

So... whether its being part of the County trip to Iceland, being selected to represent West Yorkshire at the 2011 World Scout Jamboree in Sweden, Climbing in the Lakes, Scaling the heights of a mountain that you never thought you had the nerve to do or trusting your mate to control the rope which you are attached to... adventure is at the heart of Explorer Scouting right across West Yorkshire.

It’s not all about the outdoors though, Explorer Scouts meet regularly and take part in a varied programme which is planned by the young people in the unit... from bowling competitions and cinema trips to doing a project with a local community group and learning about other religions, societies and traditions the Explorer programme offers something for everyone.

As an Explorer Scout, you also get the chance to gain many different awards and badges including skills badges from IT to Air activities, The Duke of Edinburgh Award which is well respected amongst employers and for those who reach the Gold level of the award a trip to St James’s or Buckingham palace beckons to receive your award. There is also The Queens Scout award which culminates in a trip to Winsor castle to receive your award and last but by no means least, the Explorer Belt which has seen young people travel to the other side of the world as part of their expedition taking in challenges on the way.
